Boston Public Garden - In 1873 Boston Public Garden, was the first botanical garden in United States, which will be exposed for general public use, and it is one of the landmarks in Boston. Your visit to Boston will not be complete without visiting the wonderful Garden, which has a sanctuary of different kinds of plants and beautiful flowers in the center of the famous city. Boston Parks and Recreation Department with the help of the friends of the Public Garden are the one who take care and preserves the Garden.

The city conducted a competition to find out who could make the great design in turn to build up the 24 acres of marshland selected to the garden. George V. Meacham got the first price and his design was executed, although lots of adjustments are made over the years. The good thing is that the original design has been maintained as much as possible.

This garden can be visited everyday although most of the different kinds of beautiful flowers will be seen during its season from April to October. The great statue of George Washington is found in the Public Garden and some of the excellent kinds of public art. The fanciful much loved entitled Make Way for Ducklings, is found also in the public garden as honor to the children’s story by author Robert McCloskey. The main character’s statue, Mrs. Mallard, and her eight cute little ducklings were one of the favorite sights for the children that really give happiness to them.

Boston Public Garden most favorite attractions are the famous Swan Boats. Since 1877 the Swan Boats is operating, this boat crosses the very clear lagoon at the garden. Swan Boats is intended only to accommodate 8 passengers but as the boat gets more famous the allotted time of 15 minutes ride increased. As a result of that the boat also developed to a bigger one so that it can carry 20 passengers. The descendants of the owner Robert Paget, who introduced the first boat, still manage the Garden nowadays.
